Rev. James Watkins
Senior Pastor
Pastor James Uriah Watkins has been preaching since his teens and has been in pastoral ministry since Oct 2011. As an effective communicator of God’s Word, Pastor James is widely known for his practical and dynamic teaching style which helps people apply the timeless truths of Scripture to their everyday lives.
Pastor James served as an ordained Deacon in Aug 2007-Oct 2011 when he answered his calling to preach. Pastor James served as Assistant Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of Spokane, WA. for six years and became Senior Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church on March 4th of 2018.
As the senior pastor of New Hope Baptist Church a growing, multi-cultural, multi-racial church, Pastor James mission is to share the message of hope and faith, it is his vision that through innovative and unique ministry outreach, New Hope will establish a Christ centered culture that will create people who cannot be destroyed! His vision is for New Hope to empower and prepare children, youth and young adults in accomplishing their vision and goals as they fulfill their purpose.
Pastor James is a native of Spokane, WA. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1989, and he studied Secondary Education at North Idaho College. In 1989 Pastor James was a Washington State Champ in wrestling, also taking 2nd in 1988, and 6th in 1987. Pastor James also wrestled in college and became a two time National All American placing 6th in 1991 and 4th in 1992 in The National Tournament. Pastor James holds a third degree black belt in Judo, and in 1993 he was chosen as an alternate for the World Team of Judo and had opportunity to attend the world Olympic training center. And has a passion for coaching and instructing.
Pastor James is a 27 year veteran with the Washington State Department of Corrections and currently holds the position of Lieutenant. Where he examples the principles of Christ in a difficult place and to a challenging population.
He married the love of his life Shawn on September 11, 2004. He is most proud of being a husband, father of three sons; Branden Wilson, Ephraim Watkins and Elijah Watkins and a grandfather of two precious granddaughters, A’Naya Wilson and Aliya Wilson.
Pastor James is purposed by faith and through the Word of God to disciple men and women into being the vessels of honor God has created them to be.
